1. “The Monkey’s Paw”
“The Monkey’s Paw”makes me think of gambling, or playing a casino game. The reason I think of this is because of the way the people act in the story. They attempt to get something via this thing, and when they don’t, they try again. The way this “Monkey Paw” works is if you request something, (by wish) it will give it to you. However, the form in which it is brought in is life-ending, literally. A little deeper the lady’s son dies after the husband wishes for 200 pounds. The 200 pounds is awarded to him by the company the son works at as compensation for the death of their son. But later, the wife tries the Monkey’s Paw to get her son back, and exactly how they get their son back, is unknown because he was dead. But it goes to seem like people who bet via casino, or any way of betting for that matter, lose something, then they try again, yet sometimes if not often fail.
2. “Teeth”
When I think of the story “Teeth” it makes me think of the way Adolf Hitler as a ruler of Germany slaughtered Jews. The way the Japanese were killed, bombed and burned, made me think of how the Jews were killed. Not only have they been killed the same way, but different side effects also seemed similar. Like how the author’s father said “How can I forgive the man / that severed the trunk of my family tree” – Kaye 56-57. The author’s father states here about his family tree getting cut down, this has a similar reference to Hitler because all the Jews that were killed, not only were they wiped off the map, anything they owned was too.
